"Assessment and Treatment

of Children with

Autism in the context

of

Family and Community".




This one and a half hour seminar will focus on the assessment and treatment of children with Autism. Given the high prevalence of autism, understanding and knowledge of it is important for mental health practitioners across settings. Information will be presented on neurodiversity, diagnostic criteria for autism, and how autism presents across the lifespan. Treatment modalities will also be discussed with particular focus on how to involve the whole family and connect with community-based support.

Topics will include:

- Diagnostic criteria for autism
-How autism presents across the lifespan
-Treatment considerations including how to involve the family
-Community resources for diagnosis and treatment as well as for inclusion and connectedness

Learning Objectives:

- Describe main diagnostic criteria for autism
- List two strategies to involve entire family in treatment
- List two community resources

 

Dr. Anna Krasno  is a licensed clinical psychologist, the Autism Clinical Specialist at California Counseling Clinics, and the Clinical Director of the Koegel Autism Center at UCSB. She has over a decade of experience in diagnosis and treatment of Autism and works with individuals of all ages and their families. She obtained her doctorate in Counseling, Clinical and School Psychology from UCSB and prior to that spent two years as a Donald J. Cohen Fellow in Social Developmental Neuroscience at the Yale Child Study Center. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.  Through California Counseling Clinics, she provides consultation services to individuals and families on a number of topics including early symptoms of autism and new diagnosis support, how autism presents across the lifespan, gender and cultural differences, neurodiversity, support for autistic adults, and information on local resources for assessment and treatment. She also conducts autism evaluations using a full, gold-standard testing battery for autism diagnosis.





Additional Notes Pertaining To Our Policy As A CE Provider:

1) This course has been designed for a mental health professional that include LMFT's, LCSW's, LPCC's, and LEP's. Also, Pre-licensed and Associate members may earn hours of experience for attending the Santa Barbara Chapter of CAMFT workshops as approved by their supervisor.

2) Refund/Cancellation Policy: Attendees may cancel registration and request a refund one week from the time of the event.
